Pit Road Strategy To Be Critical Component;
Fans To Again Vote One Driver Into Field
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 28th running of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race will provide some additional incentive for drivers to win one of the four segments heading into the final 10-lap shootout, as the emphasis on winning and pit road strategy have never been more prevalent in this special night of NASCAR star-studded competition. Through the annual Sprint Fan Vote, under way now, fans can again cast ballots for their favorite eligible driver. The driver receiving the highest number of votes will earn a spot in the field.
The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race set for Saturday, May 19 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (SPEED, 7 p.m.), will consist of four 20-lap segments, concluding with a 10-lap sprint and a $1 million payout to the race winner. This year’s format will place a higher premium for drivers who win one of the four segments, however, as the winners of the first four segments will move to the front of the field and line up 1-4 prior to the field coming to pit road for the final mandatory pit stop.

When the drivers come down pit road, crew chiefs will have to decide on their best pit strategy, as multiple scenarios will unfold. The team that makes the best call, combined with the optimum performance on pit road, is likely to be in the driver’s seat for the final 10 laps of competition. Wherever the drivers are positioned as they come off pit road after that pit stop is where they will line up to start the final 10-lap segment.

Companies Provide Detail Of Ongoing Relationship Including Recently Launched YouTube Channel And Continued Conversations
About the Future Of NASCAR And Technology
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 1, 2012) – NASCAR and Google today confirmed what many expected throughout the morning – the two companies working together to bring autonomous vehicle technology to NASCAR race cars was Google’s very popular, annual April Fools’ Day joke.
The collaboration highlights an evolving relationship between the two organizations that currently has them exploring possible business and technology opportunities in the future. One prime example of that collaboration lies in the recently created and launched NASCAR YouTube Channel.
“We have the best drivers in the world and would never consider replacing them despite any technological advancement,” said Brian France, chairman and CEO of NASCAR. “With that being said, technology is one of the most important sectors for the future of our sport, and we’re excited about our conversations with Google as we continuously explore ways to improve the fan experience and expose NASCAR racing to new audiences.”

The last two spring races at Auto Club Speedway have been duels between El Cajon’s Jimmie Johnson and Bakersfield’s Kevin Harvick. Johnson ended up in Victory Lane with the Harvick-dubbed “golden horse shoe” in hand in 2010. Harvick earned the title of “The Closer” a year ago by edging five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Johnson by 0.144 seconds – the closest NSCS finish in the track’s history.
Johnson leads all drivers with five wins at the track followed by fellow Californian and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon of Vallejo with three wins. Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth, who finished second in last weekend’s Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, the only other driver with multiple wins.
