NASCAR announced that Jimmie Johnson’s #48 car for the Daytona 500 has failed opening day inspection on Friday. Officials announced that unapproved modifications to the C-Post on the car were discovered. The parts in question were taken by officials and the team was allowed to repair the damage in time for Daytona 500 qualifying on Sunday.

2012 Pole Winners, Past Event Winners Will Make Field
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2012) – NASCAR today released the eligibility requirements for the 2013 Shootout at Daytona, an announcement that signals a return to the fan-favorite preseason event’s roots.
Next season’s field will consist of 2012 Coors Light Pole winners and past Shootout winners who have attempted to qualify for at least one race during the 2012 season.
Martin Truex Jr. to Start First In Budweiser Shootout at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2012) —– Martin Truex Jr. will lead the 25-car field to the green flag in the 34th annual Budweiser Shootout at Daytona on Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway. Truex secured the top starting position through the random selection process that took place Friday night at the SPEED Stage.

The starting lineup was determined at the annual Budweiser Shootout Draw Party during which the participating drivers selected a Budweiser bottle featuring a number behind the Budweiser label. The number serves as the driver’s starting position.
