March 7, 2012 — NASCAR drivers Regan Smith and Paul Menard, along with Smith’s wife Megan and a friend of the Smiths, escaped injuries in a Colorado road accident today (Wednesday, approximately 8:45 a.m. MT). The foursome was on the way to a nearby ski slope.
Smith lost control of his Silverado truck after hitting a patch of ice near his mountain home in Evergreen, outside of Denver. The truck slid off the road and crashed into a collection of trees.
DENVER, Colo. (Jan. 20, 2012) — Within one week, Regan Smith went from driving the No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway to the high ski slopes in Telluride, Colo.
And that begs the question: Why was the 28-year-old Smith, dressed in his Furniture Row firesuit, driving the race car at 9,000 feet above sea level on icy and snow-packed roads where tandem drafting would never work no matter how many rule packages were introduced?
While last week’s Daytona test session was all about preparation for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500, Telluride was all about shooting scenes earlier in the week (Monday and Tuesday) for the annual Warren Miller Entertainment ski movie.
What Trevor Bayne began in February, Regan Smith continued in May. Smith entered Darlington Raceway’s SHOWTIME Southern 500 with a lean resume to say the least: no wins, top fives or top 10s in 104 NASCAR Sprint Cup starts. Smith, then 27, became the upset winner of NASCAR’s oldest “crown jewel.” He led just the final 11 laps and held off Carl Edwards by 0.196 seconds to give Furniture Row Racing – a team headquartered in Colorado – its first series victory.

at Sunday’s NFL Game in the Mile High City
DENVER, Colo. (Dec. 8, 2011) — Though it’s the offseason for NASCAR, the Denver-based Furniture Row Racing is looking for some of the recent magic by the Denver Broncos and Tim Tebow to rub off on the Sprint Cup team as it prepares for February’s season-opening Daytona 500.
Prior to Sunday’s Broncos-Chicago Bears NFL game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Regan Smith’s No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet will be parked on the southwest corner near Gate 10. Fans can stop by to see the race car and receive a Furniture Row Racing hero card from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. MT.
Nervous Regan Smith Tosses First Pitch With Success at Rockies-Phillies Game
DENVER, Colo. (Aug. 3, 2011) — Regan Smith said he was more nervous throwing out the ceremonial first pitch Wednesday at Coors Field than he was prior to competing in Sunday’s Brickyard 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
But as he did with his third-place Brickyard finish in his No. 78 Chevrolet, the Furniture Row Racing driver came through again before the Colorado Rockies-Philadelphia Phillies baseball game. Smith hurled the baseball with authority to Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta.
Regan Smith to Throw Out First Pitch
Wednesday at Colorado Rockies Game
DENVER (Aug. 1, 2011) — Regan Smith, driver for the Denver-based Furniture Row Racing team on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Wednesday afternoon’s (Aug. 3) Major League Baseball game between the Colorado Rockies and Philadelphia Phillies at Coors Field.
Smith, who is coming off an impressive third-place finish in Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is looking forward to the 60-feet, 6-inch throw.
“I’ve been fortunate to participate in many neat things throughout my career and throwing out the first pitch at a Rockies game is going to rank right up there,” said Smith. “I am really excited about this opportunity and hope I can throw a strike.”
