Concord, N.C. (August 19, 2009) – NASCAR stars Carl Edwards and Marcos Ambrose will team up in Montreal for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal on August 29. Edwards and Ambrose will co-drive the No. 77 Ford DP car owned by Doran Enterprises, Inc. in the two-hour race. Aflac is the primary sponsor with Subway as a secondary sponsor for Edwards and iRacing.com and Aussie wines as secondary sponsors for Ambrose.

“This is going to be great running in the Rolex Series in Montreal with Marcos Ambrose,” said Edwards. “This is my first time in the series and it should be exciting. We tested at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) and everyone on the team is really cool and I know it’s going to be a lot of fun. Now we are battling over who’s going to do the most driving.”

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aug. 24, 2009) – Chandra and Jimmie Johnson announced a

Chandra and Jimmie Johnson$150,000 commitment for K-12 education in the Charlotte area today. The foundation has partnered with Lowe’s, Johnson’s primary sponsor in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and its Lowe’s Toolbox for Education program to offer a competitive grant opportunity to four local school districts in the city where the Johnsons currently reside. The Johnsons have also announced similar initiatives in their hometowns in California and Oklahoma, bringing the total commitment to education to more than $500,000.

“This year we felt that education was the right place to focus our fundraising efforts,” said Johnson, three-time, reigning Sprint Cup champion. “Education is something that is very important to Chani and me. Even when I first started out, my parents made me keep my grades up or I wasn’t allowed to race. I think it’s important to make sure we give teachers and students the best tools possible and hopefully, these grants will help.

Competition Update: Numbers Illustrate Closer-Than-Ever Racing

24 5Through 23 races of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, statistics reflect extremely close competition, starting with an average margin of victory of 1.039 seconds. Fourteen races have had a MOV under one second.

Following are other statistical nuggets, through 23 races:
• 13 different race winners (there were 12 all of last year)
• 9 different pole winners
• 7 different organizations in the top 12
• 41 drivers have led at least one lap
• 35 drivers have scored at least one Top 10 this year
• Average of 10 leaders per race
• Average of 18 lead changes per race
• Average of 20 green flag passes for the lead all along the track
• Average of 2,939 green flag passes per race
