TALLADEGA, Ala. — Crew chiefs of two Michael Waltrip Racing teams and one affiliated program are facing penalties after NASCAR confiscated the front windshields from all three vehicles on Friday.

(from NASCAR.com)

The front windshields from David Reutimann’s No. 00 car, Martin Truex Jr.’s No. 56 car, and Bobby Labonte’s No. 47 car were all taken after they were found to have unapproved modifications, NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said. The violations were discovered in opening inspection at Talladega Superspeedway, site of Sunday’s Sprint Cup event.

MWR fields the cars of Reutimann and Truex, and also builds the cars for Labonte, whose vehicle is owned by JTG Daugherty Racing. All three vehicles are Toyotas. Additional penalties for the infractions are expected early next week, Tharp said.

Sprint Drive First – a new app from Sprint

Sprint Drive First is a new app from Sprint that automatically locks a mobile phone when a car is moving faster than 10 mph. It disables phone functionality, directs incoming calls to voice mail and silences distracting alerts for incoming emails and text messages.

Sprint Drive First is a great tool to help keep kids from talking and texting while driving. It provides parents with peace of mind that their teenage driver will arrive safely at their destination.

For anyone who sends a text, when the Sprint Drive First app is activated it will automatically send a reply message to the sender to tell them that you’re driving and that you will respond to them when you are no longer driving, so they’ll know why you’re not getting back to them immediately.

NASCAR will provide teams with a B-post decal in honor of Dan Wheldon for all the cars and trucks this weekend in Talladega.

As many of you know, the Lionheart Knight image is one that was included on the back of every one of Dan’s helmets. NASCAR also is producing helmet decals for any of the drivers who would like to run a version of the decal on their helmets. The decals will be delivered trackside on Friday. As always, the decals will be provided to the teams during the inspection process throughout the course of the weekend. Additionally, some of the drivers also have their own personal plans to recognize Dan this weekend.

As part of the NASCAR Pre Race run of show, we will include a moment of silence in Dan’s honor prior to the invocations Saturday and Sunday.
