FOR THIS WEEKEND’S RACE IN RICHMOND

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (April 24, 2013) – Following a medical evaluation on his injured back it has been determined that Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) driver Denny Hamlin will not race in this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Richmond.

Hamlin suffered an L1 Compression Fracture during an accident on the final lap of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway on March 24. Dr. Jerry Petty of Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates re-evaluated Hamlin this week and it was determined that he would benefit from additional rest and rehabilitation.

Brian Vickers will remain behind the wheel of the No. 11 FedEx Toyota in this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Richmond.

Hamlin’s future status will be updated as needed.

“Unfortunately I won’t be racing this weekend at Richmond. It kills me to not be in the car for my team and sponsors but after long discussions with the doctors we have decided to wait on my return back to racing. Thanks to all of my fans who have sent encouraging messages over the last month. I’ll be back in no time.”
