JPM Needs More RPM

Actually, that engine reference was just for the sake of a good headline, and by no means aimed at pinning Juan Pablo Montoya’s disappointing season thus far on engine troubles.

Whatever the reasons for Montoya’s current 20th-place position in the standings, once thing is certain – he needs to step it up, if he’s going to make the Chase.

Which brings us to Infineon Raceway, where Montoya got his first – and thus far only – NASCAR Sprint Cup victory, in 2007. Another win could jump-start Montoya’s season in a big way.

Johnson Looking For First Road-Course Win – As Are Some Others
Jimmie Johnson has won the series championship the last four years. But he has never won on a road course in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

He’s not alone.

Other top drivers still seeking a road-course breakthrough: 2003 series champion Matt Kenseth; 2004 series champion Kurt Busch; Jeff Burton; Greg Biffle; Dale Earnhardt Jr.; Carl Edwards; Denny Hamlin.

But we need a couple of asterisks, please. Both Edwards and Hamlin have road-course wins in the NASCAR Nationwide Series – Edwards at Montreal last year, Hamlin at Mexico City in 2006.
