Ganassi Seeking An Auto Racing ‘Triple Crown’

Team owner Chip Ganassi can achieve an unprecedented sweep of the “Triple Crown” of American oval races – the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 – if one of his drivers wins the Brickyard 400.

Jamie McMurray won the Daytona 500 for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, and Dario Franchitti won the Indianapolis 500 for Target Chip Ganassi Racing, making Ganassi the first team owner to win those two heralded races in one year. Now the question is whether either McMurray or Juan Pablo Montoya can deliver a win at the Brickyard.

UPDATE

BRAD KESELOWSKI – “The incident at the end of Saturday night’s race at Gateway was unfortunate not just for Penske Racing and the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge team, but for all of the teams that were caught up in the aftermath. There was unnecessary damage done to a lot of race cars as a result of the incident, including one of our best cars. We support NASCAR’s decision and we look forward to putting this behind us. Our focus continues to be working hard to get Discount Tire, Ruby Tuesday, Dodge, Mr. Penske and Penske Racing a Championship this season.”

Harvick, History Look To Converge At Indy

This piece of statistical history always is eye-catching. If you win the Brickyard 400, there’s a good chance you’ll go on to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship. That double-up has happened eight times in the 16-year history of the event.

Kevin Harvick, the current series points leader, looks to add to that history. Harvick has one Brickyard 400 win, in 2003.

Here’s the list of Brickyard 400 winners who have gone on to win the series title:
1998 – Jeff Gordon
1999 – Dale Jarrett
2000 – Bobby Labonte
2001 – Jeff Gordon
2005 – Tony Stewart
2006 – Jimmie Johnson
2008 – Jimmie Johnson
2009 – Jimmie Johnson
