Michigan International Speedway has sweeping 73-foot wide turns providing three and four grooves for drivers of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) to catch and pass one another.

The 2-mile tri-oval track with 18 degree banking did not disappoint during Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 as numerous lead changes, bold pit road strategies and fast competition pleased the abundant crowd.

Although cautions happened, the day of racing was surprisingly free of crashes. Some cars scrapped the wall. Some ran low on fuel, but it was a speedy event where equipment failed—not drivers or teams.

Race 23 of 36 in the Sprint Cup Series in Brooklyn, Mich., was important for all wanting a win or good result, but for Chase contenders on the bubble the finish became tense.

As Official Pace Car For The 54th Annual DAYTONA 500
Toyota becomes fourth manufacturer to pace a Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona since 2010

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 2012 Toyota Camry will serve as the official pace car for the 54th running of the DAYTONA 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 – the first time that the manufacturer will serve as the pace car for a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway and the fourth different manufacturer to do so at the “World Center of Racing” since 2010.

“NASCAR and Daytona International Speedway provide a uniquely American platform for manufacturers to display their technology, innovation and overall automotive excellence,” said Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III. “After nearly eight years of competing at NASCAR’s highest level, I’m pleased to have the 2012 Toyota Camry pace the DAYTONA 500.”

Kyle Busch pleaded guilty to driving a loaner Lexus LFA SuperCar, 128mph in a 45 zone back on May 24th in Moorsville North Carolina. He was charged with speeding and reckless driving and appeared in court Tuesday August 23rd 2011. He was given a 30 day suspended jail sentence, 30 hours of community service, 1 year of unsupervised probation, lost his drivers license for 45 days, and a $1000 fine. To answer your question, no he doesn’t need a valid drivers license to race in NASCAR.

Kyle Busch – “Obviously I had a lack of judgment and just made a mistake,” Busch said two days after being cited. “And I’m sorry for making that mistake. … Fortunately there was no one hurt, but that doesn’t make any kind of an excuse for what happened and for my lack in judgment for what I did.”

NASCAR Penalizes Crew Chief Jerry Baxter

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 23, 2011) – NASCAR has penalized Jerry Baxter, crew chief for the No. 99 car that competed in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event Aug. 20 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, for his actions following the completion of the race.

Baxter has been fined $5,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31 for violating Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing – involved in an altercation on pit road after the completion of the race).
