Atlanta Cup Race Postponed until Tuesday says Mike Helton

Mike Helton: Yeah, unfortunately we’re going to have to reschedule because this last rain that set us back, we’re now predicting it will take three to three and a half hours to dry. which means it will be 12:30 or 1 o’clock in the morning before we could start, which is just not reasonable to do. That along with the forecast that everybody that does that professionally around here universally agrees that for the next 36 hours starting sometime later tonight it’s about 100% chance in this area with more than likely three, four, five inches of rain, high wind and all the things that create dangerous situations with weather. We’ll have respect for that and reschedule this race to start at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning.

Dale Jarrett: I would have to say, this doesn’t change the Richmond schedule whatsoever though. These teams are very well-prepared to be ready to be there on Friday and going?

Mike Helton: I expect that you’re right. Hopefully everything goes okay tuesday, and we’ll just be a couple days behind but we’ll catch up pretty quick, I hope.

Andy Petree: Mike, you know the guys are going to take the cars back to the garage area. I know if I’m a crew chief, I would love to get my hands on it because we’re going to be racing in a little different condition than we had planned on. Are you going to let the guys work on the cars at all?

Mike Helton: (NASCAR Managing Director of Competition) John Darby and (NASCAR Vice President of Competition) Robin Pemberton will have to determine the fact that they’ve sat for a good period of time, not just overnight. It’s been for a good period of time. (They) have to take into consideration the climate changes, including daylight to dark and what weather comes through here before we can get them out of the garage and decide what might be able to be done.

Allen Bestwick: Mike, we appreciate the update. not an easy decision for NASCAR or the track promoter to make?

Mike Helton: This is one of those deals nobody wins from, but it’s unfortunate it happens from time to time.
