The moment we all figured was on the verge of happening came through on Monday. After recent issues on the track – and off the track – Kurt Busch has pushed the envelope just far enough to warrant a suspension from NASCAR.

NASCAR released a statement this week:

NASCAR has suspended driver Kurt Busch until June 13 of this year and extended his NASCAR probation until Dec. 31 for his actions following the NASCAR Nationwide Series race June 2 at Dover International Speedway.

Kurt Busch violated Section 12-1 (Actions detrimental to stock car racing; violation of probation; verbal abuse to a media member) of the 2012 NASCAR Rule Book. Kurt Busch had previously been placed on NASCAR probation May 15 for his actions during the May 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Darlington Raceway. That probation was originally scheduled to end July 25 but has now been extended through the end of this year.

A few weeks ago Busch got in an accident at Darlington, and on his way back on the track after repairs he did an excessive burnout through Ryan Newman’s pit stall, nearly hitting many of Newman’s crew members in the process. This week in a Nationwide Series race he found himself in a heated conversation with Justin Allgaier following the race. The two had made contact in the early stages of the event.

This week he also lashed out at a reporter from SportingNews.com, saying that if he wasn’t on suspension he would, “beat the shit,” out of the reporter.

Busch’s comments which were filmed, and have since been released virally are what officially were the cause of his suspension, which will run through June 13th. Busch’s probation has also been extended through December 31st.

A confrontation with a media member in last season’s finale at Homestead is the reason why he found himself scurrying for a ride last minute this offseason after he and Roger Penske “mutually” decided to part ways. You would think that Busch would start to learn his lessons, but now it seems he is a step closer to being on the outside looking in on the sport he loves.
