Just a few hours ago Alex Bowman was sitting in the infield care center with an illness, fast forward to 5:00 pm CST, and he is on the pole for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300. Bowman’s lap clocked in at 183.418 mph. This marks Bowman’s first-ever NASCAR Nationwide Series pole, but with how fast the rookie has been so far through 2013, it definitely shouldn’t be his last.
Kyle Busch took the second position with a lap of 183.187 mph. Busch may have just missed the pole, but after three wins through his first five starts in 2013 he has to be the favorite for victory Friday night.
Austin Dillon had been uncharacteristically slow all day long at Texas Motor Speedway, but his team made some much needed changes to the car before qualifying, and as a result he will roll from the third starting spot in the No. 3 Chevrolet.
Sam Hornish Jr. — the point leader — will start fourth and Brad Keselowski will round out your top-five starters for Friday night’s Nationwide Series event at Texas Motor Speedway.
