Kevin Harvick had been pretty fast through the early part of the weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, but early  in the second practice session the motor in Harvick’s No. 29 Chevrolet expired down the front stretch. What this means is that no matter where Harvick ranks in today’s qualifying session for Saturday’s NRA 500, he will have to start from the rear of the field.

This marks the second engine that has gone up in smoke for the Earnhardt Childress Engine shop, as Paul Menard lost a motor in testing Thursday.

Harvick has had a sluggish start to 2013, as he has just one top-10 through six races, and he sits 14th in the point standings. If he expects to move forward, he’ll have to do it from the back of the field on Saturday.
