Since news broke that Bill Elliott would be coming out of retirement to run the NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Road America, Kerry Murphey has joked on basically every episode of The Final Lap Weekly Podcast that in doing so Elliott would be losing his place in the NASCAR Hall of Fame for at least a couple of years.

Of course, Elliott’s enshrinement is staying put, but the 1988 NASCAR Cup Series champion and winner of 44 Cup Series races has an interesting rear bumper this weekend on his No. 23 Chevrolet Camaro.

The team was instructed to place yellow rookie tape on the bumper before Elliott could run any laps in practice around the massive 4-plus mile race course. Elliott also partook in the rookie driving meeting with Tyler Reddick and the other NXS 2018 rookie class.

Ross Chastain, who hails from Alva, Florida, has been opening eyes for the last couple of years. Driving in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for Johnny Davis, Chastain has certainly been outperforming his equipment. To date, he has a pair of fourth place finishes in his career at Iowa Speedway. He has also recorded a total of 12 top-10 finishes in 128 NXS starts.

Man, what a race Bristol Motor Speedway put on. The race had it all. Big crashes, tight battles all night long, and in the end a driver — Kurt Busch — got their first win of the season.

Not only that, but three more drivers — Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski and Kyle Larson — did enough to secure berths in the Playoff Grid. With two races remaining 12 of the 16 slots have been filled, which leaves four positions for 18 drivers to battle for.

Throughout his career, Kyle Busch has won seven times at Bristol Motor Speedway, and along the way he has led a staggering 2,233 laps there. The 32-year-old driver did not add to either of those totals in Saturday night’s Bass Pro Shops/NRA Night Race at Bristol, but his showing was possibly more impressive and frustrating than any of his previous 26 starts at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. comes into Saturday night’s Bass Pro Shops night race at Bristol Motor Speedway in an unenviable position – the first man outside the cutline for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

The 30-year-old driver currently sits 62 points behind Hendrick Motorports driver Alex Bowman. Stenhouse could erase that point deficit over the next three races, but it is highly unlikely that it will happen. But if Stenhouse were to win one of the three remaining regular season races the Olive Branch, Mississippi native would leapfrog his way automatically into the post season.
