Kevin Harvick had been pretty fast through the early part of the weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, but early  in the second practice session the motor in Harvick’s No. 29 Chevrolet expired down the front stretch. What this means is that no matter where Harvick ranks in today’s qualifying session for Saturday’s NRA 500, he will have to start from the rear of the field.

This marks the second engine that has gone up in smoke for the Earnhardt Childress Engine shop, as Paul Menard lost a motor in testing Thursday.

Harvick has had a sluggish start to 2013, as he has just one top-10 through six races, and he sits 14th in the point standings. If he expects to move forward, he’ll have to do it from the back of the field on Saturday.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Tony Stewart won Saturday’s DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway, but the elation of his victory disappeared in the wake of a heart-stopping wreck that saw Kyle Larson’s car demolished after flying into the crossover gate that provides access from the asphalt to the main grandstand.

Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway several of NASCAR’s biggest names found themselves in huge trouble in the middle-to-late stages of the race. Matt Kenseth found himself as low as 27th at one point in the race, but he wouldn’t throw in the towel. Neither would fellow competitors Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kevin Harvick.

All four drivers found themselves outside the top-20 late in the AAA Texas 500, but each and every one of them rebounded for nice top-10 finishes. Continue reading “Kenseth And Earnhardt Among Those Who Rebound From Sub-20th Place Runs”

Though only two drivers — Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. — have been mathematically eliminated from the 12-man Chase for the Sprint Cup, Kasey Kahne is the lastest driver to fall an insurmountable total of points behind the championship leader Jimmie Johnson.

On lap 322, while running inside the top-ten Kahne had a tire let go. He then slammed the wall, the damage was hard enough to force him to a lap down while his team made repairs on pit road. As a result Kahne would finish a disappointing 25th, after what was a really good run. Continue reading “Kasey Kahne’s Championship Hopes Go Out The Window In Texas; Championship Standings”
