Few people are surprised that a sport that has its roots in moonshine and bootlegging would have its fair share of controversies over the years. This year’s Chase for the Cup, however, has been especially controversial. Almost as soon as the cars crossed the finish line for the last race of the regular season, NASCAR began dealing with a nasty cheating scandal that eventually resulted in the largest fine in the sport’s history. Although, the brake dust is still settling, it appears that the 2013 Chase will probably end up being one of the top three NASCAR controversies of all times. Mathematically, 10 drivers are on the Chase playoff bubble–Dale Earnhardt Jr., Joey Logano, Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon, Martin Truex Jr., Ryan Newman, Brad Keselowski, Jamie McMurray and Pual Menard. All can make NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup final contender list. Realistically, only some will grab a final position.

Brian Scott climbed from his car Friday night in Richmond, Virginia and you could feel the disgust oozing through his body language. Scott’s frustration was understandable, if not deserved — even before you factor in a pair of controversies over the last 12 laps of the event, which led to the driver missing out on his first Nationwide Series victory.
