Trucks debut at Pocono, Unique Qualifying
onNASCAR announced that it will revise the qualifying procedure for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ inaugural Pocono Mountains 125 at Pocono Raceway on Saturday, July 31, with a multi-truck session on the 2.5-mile track.
The order in which trucks will qualify for the 36 available positions will be based on their practice speeds from final practice on Friday, July 30. Times will be inverted, allowing the slowest truck in practice to be the first out in qualifying on Saturday morning, with the fastest truck going out last. Trucks will be released from pit road in approximately 25-second increments.
Two laps of qualifying will be allowed with the fastest lap counting. Once a truck comes onto pit road its respective qualifying lap is complete. No drafting will be permitted.
Qualifying will be televised on SPEED at 10 a.m. on Sat July 31
Ford Fiesta Pace Car debuts at Michigan
on
DEARBORN, Mich., July 27, 2010 – It’s already setting the pace when it comes to hot new vehicles coming into the market. Now, Ford’s new 2011 Fiesta will bring its great looks and segment-leading fuel economy to NASCAR for the first time when it becomes the official pace car for the CarFax 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Aug. 15.
The new Fiesta pace car was officially unveiled today at the Henry Ford Museum by Ford NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Matt Kenseth and Jamie Allison, director of Ford North America Motorsports, in a media event to promote the upcoming race.
“When we got a chance to drive the Fiesta in June before the first Michigan race, I was really impressed with it,” said Kenseth. “It’s a fun car to drive, with great handling, and you can’t beat the fuel economy or technology. I can’t wait to see how it looks on the track. I hope I get a real close view of it at the race, because that will mean we’re running at the front.”
Today’s announcement is the latest in a busy week of racing-related ventures for Fiesta, which will look to defend its X Games gold medal with an all-star, four-man driver lineup that includes Ford rally superstar Ken Block and defending champion Kenny Brack at X Games 16 in Los Angeles on July 31. Block and Fiesta will also be featured in a national television ad campaign that kicks off this weekend, highlighting the 2011 Fiesta.
“We’ve said all along that Fiesta is fun-to-drive, featuring great handling and tremendous fuel economy. It’s the type of car that race fans need to get to know,’ said Allison. “We’re excited to bring the first Fiesta pace car to Michigan International Speedway, giving us the chance for more than 100,000 fans at the track, and millions more watching on television, a chance to see what the excitement is all about.”

Gateway not hosting races in 2011
onDover Motorsports, Inc. (NYSE: DVD) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Gateway International Raceway has notified NASCAR that it will not seek 2011 sanctions for its two Nationwide Series and one Camping World Truck Series races.
Vice President and General Manager of Gateway, Terry Harmeson stated, “This was a difficult decision in light of the many years of earnest and continued efforts on everyone’s part to develop a viable market for these events in one of our nation’s greatest cities. We remain committed to fulfill the balance of our 2010 schedule including our October 23rd NASCAR Nationwide race which will provide our fans the opportunity to see Danica Patrick compete here for the first time. We also plan to explore various ways to change the economics at Gateway both from the revenue and expense side.”
Denis McGlynn, President & CEO of Dover Motorsports, stated, “We have a group of extremely dedicated and talented employees who make Gateway a great destination and we deeply appreciate all the support we have had from the racing community over the years – from racing fans and drivers to sponsors, team owners and sanctioning bodies. However, economics dictate that we evaluate all of our options for this facility, including its possible sale.”
