Surprise, surprise (not really)

(Aug. 30, 2013) – Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (EGR) announced today that young racing sensation Kyle Larson, a 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) driver and the 2012 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) Champion, will take over as the driver of the No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS beginning in 2014.

Ah, but what will be announced today? (cough 42 Cup, clear throat)
Fresh off his sixth top-five finish of the season, Kyle Larson heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the first time behind the wheel of his No. 32 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He finished sixth in last year’s truck series race at AMS. He currently holds a 67-point lead over Alex Bowman in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year battle with 13 top-10 finishes.
Owners like Championships too
A “split” driver/owner Chase Wild Card picture continues with Stewart-Haas Racing’s No. 14 pursuing history as the first owner to qualify for the postseason without an eligible driver. The No. 56 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota, driven by Martin Truex Jr., holds the second owner Chase Wild Card.

With the ascent of Kasey Kahne and Joey Logano to the top 10, the provisional Chase Wild Card picture has changed yet again. Martin Truex Jr. (14th) and Ryan Newman (15th) hold the winning hands this week. Newman’s only top-five finish at Atlanta came in March 2004, while Truex’s only top five came in last year’s AdvoCare 500.
