INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Ryan Newman, now a job seeker, couldn’t have added a more important or timely accomplishment to his resume.

Taking advantage of an uncharacteristic glitch on pit road on the part of Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48 team, Newman grabbed the lead during a long cycle of late green-flag pit stops and held on to win Sunday’s Crown Royal presents the Samuel Deeds 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 27, 2013) – In winning the Coors Light Pole Award at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Ryan Newman, a native of South Bend, Ind., became the ninth driver with at least 50 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series poles.

Chevrolet LogoYou could say Chevrolet has run the table at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in recent years – 10 years to be exact. The last non-Chevrolet to win at the Brickyard was Ray Evernham’s Dodge, driven by Bill Elliott, in 2001. A General Motors product has won 15 of the 19 races held at the Brickyard. Ford’s third and most recent victory was recorded by 2014 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Dale Jarrett in 1999. Toyota, which joined NASCAR Sprint Cup competition in 2007, notched its best finish at Indy last year with Kyle Busch’s runner-up performance.
