When we last saw Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 Beard Oil Motorsports team in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series competition, they were polishing off a solid top-10 effort at Talladega Superspeedway back in April. The Toyota Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway was an interesting race. Stage breaks stole some of the strategy from the event and there were no natural caution flags throughout the entire 90-lap event. However, even with no yellows Martin Truex Jr. had to be nearly perfect down the stretch to keep Kyle Busch at bay behind him.

The overnight television ratings are in from the event, and the race scored a 1.53 overnight Nielsen rating. This equates to a three-percent increase from 2018 (1.48).

The top three markets that consumed the event were Charlotte (4.8), Richmond (4.8) and Greenville (4.7).

It’s a shame that the most press Ryan Newman has received so far in 2019 is when he played a punching bag as Clint Bowyer approached his No. 6 Ford Mustang following the Monster Energy All-Star Race in May, because Newman, 41, has quietly had an impressive season at Roush Fenway Racing. As Martin Truex Jr. came through a hairpin final turn and approached the finish line at Sonoma Raceway in Sunday’s Toyota Save Mart 350, the 38-year old was making more history than just recording the 23rd victory of his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series career. Matt DiBenedetto kept his nose clean and drove smoothly in Sunday’s Toyota Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway for an emotional career-best fourth-place finish. A misty-eyed DiBenedetto had reason to be proud of his effort at the 2.52-mile road course, but instead of tooting his own horn he was thankful for his opportunity.
