FOR THIS WEEKEND’S RACE IN RICHMOND

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (April 24, 2013) – Following a medical evaluation on his injured back it has been determined that Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) driver Denny Hamlin will not race in this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Richmond.

Hamlin suffered an L1 Compression Fracture during an accident on the final lap of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway on March 24. Dr. Jerry Petty of Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates re-evaluated Hamlin this week and it was determined that he would benefit from additional rest and rehabilitation.

2013-Nationwide-Dollar-General-200-Phoenix-030213-Brian-VickersBrian Vickers is next up in the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in relief of the injured Denny Hamlin. The team has a solid history at Texas Motor Speedway where Hamlin swept spring and fall races in 2010 – the season in which the Virginia driver nearly won the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship. Vickers will do double duty in Texas also competing in Friday night’s Nationwide Series race. The No. 11 team stands ninth in Sprint Cup owner points following Mark Martin’s 10th-place finish in Martinsville.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (March 28, 2013) – Joe Gibbs Racing announces today that Mark Martin will drive the No. 11 FedEx Toyota Camry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series while Denny Hamlin recovers from an L1 Compression Fracture suffered during an accident on March 24 at Auto Club Speedway.

“We’ve been real fortunate to have never been in this situation with the need to find someone to fill in for an injured driver,” said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing. “A lot goes into a decision like this but we are really pleased to have someone of the character and caliber of Mark Martin to fill in while Denny is out. Obviously we’re not exactly sure how long that is going to take, but Mark’s career speaks for itself and our team knows it will have the opportunity to compete for a win every week.”

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (December 9, 2011) – Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) announces today that Darian Grubb has been named crew chief for its No. 11 FedEx Toyota NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team.
“Darian is a great addition to our organization and person to lead our No. 11 FedEx team,” said Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. “Obviously he has proven the ability to guide a team to a championship and we are excited to have him working with Denny (Hamlin) toward achieving that goal here at Joe Gibbs Racing.”

Grubb is coming off an impressive championship run with driver Tony Stewart at Stewart-Haas Racing which included winning five of the 10 Chase races en route to capturing the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title.
