NASCAR issued a technical bulletin Thursday, Sept. 6 that reconfirms the limits NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams can go in setting up their rear end suspensions in their race cars. Effective Sept. 12, the truck trailing arm front mounting bushing assemblies may be built to allow a maximum of ¼ inch of total movement in one direction only. Truck trailing arm front mounting bushings must be designed to move freely throughout the ¼ inch of approved travel. Previously approved front truck trailing arm bushing assemblies which allow more than ¼ inch of movement or that do not move freely throughout the ¼ inch travel will no longer be permitted for use in competition. Approved front truck trailing arm bushing assemblies must not be altered after being approved. Wheelbase, rear axle location (parallel), offset and rear axle housing alignment will be inspected both pre-race and post-race.

Usually as a motorsports writer you write specifically about auto racing, however occasionally stories will pop up that are out of the realm of tire wear, oil changes and laptimes. One of those stories is the one that cropped up with the release of Amanda Beard’s new book. In it she has a chapter on her relationship with Carl Edwards. In that chapter she states that Edwards was selfish, and he didn’t help her in times of need including an addiction she had to cocaine.
Carl Edwards Friday at Texas Motor Speedway responded to Beard’s book.
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR OPINION ON WHAT AMANDA BEARD WROTE ABOUT YOU IN HER BOOK AND THE FACT THAT SHE WROTE ABOUT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?
“I thought about that a lot and I couldn’t really come up with a good explanation or answer for you guys because I truly didn’t know what to think about it. I guess all I can say is that I considered us friends and I didn’t realize that she had all those problems. I would have done anything in the world to have helped her with those. As always, regardless of what she writes in her books and things like that, if she ever needs something from me I would be there to help her out. I don’t know what else to say about that.”
