Federated Auto Parts 400 - PracticeKANNAPOLIS, N.C., (Oct. 7, 2013) – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Tony Stewart underwent a third surgery on his right leg early on Monday, Oct. 7 to examine and close a wound on his shin stemming from the broken tibia and fibula he sustained in a sprint car crash Aug. 5 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Stewart will remain hospitalized for observation.

The surgery served as a proactive measure and team officials do not expect it to impact Stewart’s return to the No. 14 Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1 Chevrolet in 2014. Continue reading “Tony Stewart Undergoes Third Surgery on Leg”

Tony Stewart at DaytonaFor the third week in a row Tony Stewart was involved in a Sprint Car wreck racing in his “off time” and doing what he loves. This time his luck ran out while leading on Monday night at Southern Iowa Speedway when a lap car crashed in front of Smoke and collected his car and two others with 5 laps to go. This time Tony didn’t emerge from his mangled wreckage okay as he had done so many times before, this time he suffered breaks in his lower right leg (tibia and fibula.) He was transported to a local hospital where he had surgery. He’ll of course miss Watkins Glen this weekend, and most likely many races beyond that. We wish Tony Stewart a quick recovery.

Katie Kenseth crashed while practicing for the Oct. 15 charity “Better Half Dash” before the Sprint Cup Series race that evening. She is one of many wives and girlfriends scheduled to drive in this race.  She was taken to the hospital and later released.  Here is what Matt had to say on his Twitter account.

She said that was the shortest racing career in history!

That didn’t turn out so well. Katie and I are home, she has a broken scapula and some bumps and bruises. Thanks for all the well wishes.
