TALLADEGA, Ala. — Crew chiefs of two Michael Waltrip Racing teams and one affiliated program are facing penalties after NASCAR confiscated the front windshields from all three vehicles on Friday.

The front windshields from David Reutimann’s No. 00 car, Martin Truex Jr.’s No. 56 car, and Bobby Labonte’s No. 47 car were all taken after they were found to have unapproved modifications, NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said. The violations were discovered in opening inspection at Talladega Superspeedway, site of Sunday’s Sprint Cup event.

MWR fields the cars of Reutimann and Truex, and also builds the cars for Labonte, whose vehicle is owned by JTG Daugherty Racing. All three vehicles are Toyotas. Additional penalties for the infractions are expected early next week, Tharp said.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 21, 2011) – NASCAR will implement two rule changes for next month’s running of the Good Sam Club 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.

The size of the restrictor plate that teams will use to prepare and practice for the race will increase by 1/64 inch and is now going to be 57/64 inch diameter. This will provide the teams with an additional 7-10 horsepower.

Additionally, the pressure relief valve on the cars’ cooling system will be recalibrated to reduce the pressure by approximately eight pounds per square inch from last April’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega.

“After the last few superspeedway races, we’ve heard many drivers express their desire to open up the size of the restrictor plate some and we thought the time was right to do that,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president, competition. “We anticipate these revisions in the rules package for Talladega will help continue to provide competitive and exciting racing for the fans.”

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 2012 Toyota Camry will serve as the official pace car for the 54th running of the DAYTONA 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 – the first time that the manufacturer will serve as the pace car for a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway and the fourth different manufacturer to do so at the “World Center of Racing” since 2010.

“NASCAR and Daytona International Speedway provide a uniquely American platform for manufacturers to display their technology, innovation and overall automotive excellence,” said Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III. “After nearly eight years of competing at NASCAR’s highest level, I’m pleased to have the 2012 Toyota Camry pace the DAYTONA 500.”
