Humans are all born with inherent abilities, some more than others. All humans learn much as they grow through life, some absorb more than others.

Motorsports drivers must have a unique mix of nature and nurture that is somehow motivated by competitive energy that won’t often be denied.

jimmie-johnson-nascar-daytona-500-victory-lane-2013Rolling out of the Daytona crapshoot, those teams lucky and good enough to be in the top 12 in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points are well-positioned. Only eight races remain before the points are re-set and given the scanty point system, the Top Five or so are likely to get their share of the 384 points available before the Chase for the Sprint Cup begins.

It’s simply go-time for half of the drivers and teams in the Top 20 as only 12 are going to get the chance for the coveted Sprint crown. Wins are more like treasure now. Crashes that result in even one DNF can be a mortal blow to playoff hopes. Consistency is essential.

pocono_nscs_060613The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series climbs up to the Pocono Mountains in Long Pond, Pennsylvania for a challenging race on the 2.5-mile triangle with 14 degree banking at Pocono Raceway.

Rainy weather may interfere with anticipated adjustment laps.

cup_points51613Big reality—The Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway will go about 90 laps 135 miles in five segments on the 1.5-mile track this Saturday night in Concord, N.C. and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points lead will not change.

The popular fan friendly and fan-influenced All-Star race is not a NSCS point race at all. It’s a race for bragging rights and maybe $1 million dollars in prize money. This event is a prelude show for NASCAR’s longest race, the Coke 600 the following week.

As most of the NASCAR drivers have homes in the Charlotte area both races allow them the luxury of local travel distances and the comfort of sleeping in their own beds for two weeks.

The All-Star race also helps drivers and teams to gain data on CMS for the long Coke 600.
