NASCAR Sprint Cup’s all-time road-race winner Jeff Gordon, with nine victories, continues his mid-season climb into championship contention. Gordon has won four times at The Glen, most recently in 2001. His second-place finish at Pocono Raceway advanced the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion to ninth in the standings – one spot behind Pocono winner and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne. All four of the Hendrick drivers – Johnson, Kahne, Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. – occupy a top-10 spot and provisional Chase berths.

POCONO, Pa. (July 29, 2013) – For defending race winner Jeff Gordon, the party in the Poconos may begin race morning. Will the celebration continue well past that afternoon’s GoBowling.com 400 at Pocono Raceway?
Gordon, who will celebrate his 42nd birthday on Sunday, will make his 42nd start at the 2.5-mile track this weekend. His six victories and 965 laps led are tops at “The Tricky Triangle” while he also has two poles, 18 top-fives and 28 top-10’s in his previous 41 starts at the Pennsylvania track.
“This is a very challenging track, but I love racing here,” said Gordon, driver of the No. 24 Drive To End Hunger Chevrolet. “In June, we had a fast race car but we struggled early in the run.
“We need to find some more speed early in the run while also having a fast car over the long runs.”

Johnson, Gordon Looking For Fifth NASCAR Indy Win

Johnson, Gordon Chasing Indianapolis Victory Mark
Reigning winner Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon each has won four times at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A fifth victory would match the Indianapolis winners’ record held by Formula One’s Michael Schumacher. Johnson has won four of the track’s last seven races. Gordon won the track’s inaugural event in 1994 and last visited Victory Lane there in 2004.

Kentucky Speedway is the only “blank spot” on Jeff Gordon’s 87-victory dance card. The four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion counts at least one victory on every other track currently scheduled having erased Homestead-Miami Speedway from the short list last November. Gordon finished fifth at Kentucky Speedway a year ago behind Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kasey Kahne (second) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (fourth). Jimmie Johnson was sixth placing each HMS car in the top 10.
