Four-Time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Jeff Gordon is continuing his farewell tour by trading his racing car in for his very own double decker sightseeing bus. To recognize Jeff for all of his contributions to NASCAR and philanthropy, the Ride of Fame (a continuing worldwide series of mobile monuments dedicated to public figures highlighting and promoting their respective cities with their business and personal endeavors) is immortalizing Jeff with his very own double-decker bus to honor his final full-time season with NASCAR.

The ceremony includes the unveiling of a permanent decal bearing his image on the front of the bus, a personalized message from Jeff to the world on his very own permanent seat and interacting with fans in attendance cheering him on. Other star athletes inducted into the Ride of Fame include Yankees Legend Mariano Rivera, Washington Capitals Superstar Alex Ovechkin and Rangers Goalie Henrik Lundqvist. Jeff is also the first professional racecar driver to be inducted into the Ride of Fame.

Though Jeff Gordon wears the crown as ‘Homecoming King,’ two other local drivers can upend him in Sonoma – Kyle Larson, from Elk Grove, and AJ Allmendinger from Los Gatos. Larson, the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year, finished 28th in his lone Sonoma start, last season. Allmendinger has two top 10s at Sonoma, and won last year’s Watkins Glen race – the second of two NSCS road-course races.

Northern California is about to witness the end of an era.

Native son Jeff Gordon, born in Vallejo, California, will make his final start at Sonoma Raceway – a track he has dominated during his career – in Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350. In all, Gordon has finished third or better in 13 of his 22 starts at Sonoma.

Still, Gordon has not visited Victory Lane at the 12-turn loop since 2006, but boasts the track record for wins (5), Coors Light Pole Awards (5), average finish (7.9), top fives (14), top 10s (18) and laps led (457).

Here is a list of drivers second in each category for comparison: wins (four drivers, 2), Coors Light Pole Awards (Ricky Rudd, 4), average finish (Dale Earnhardt, 8.4), top fives (Ricky Rudd, 10), tops 10s (Mark Martin, 13), laps led (Rusty Wallace, 171).

Gordon stands as NASCAR’s all-time leader in road course wins with nine.

nscs_autoclub_jeffgordon_032114Jeff Gordon showed the crowd incredible things last August at Michigan, leading 68 laps from the pole after setting the track qualifying record (206.558 mph), and pulling away from Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano for the win.

Gordon will try to visit Victory Lane again Sunday, for the second straight race in the Great Lakes State, filling his blank space in the win column and clinching a spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

The No. 24 Chevrolet driver’s three Michigan wins rank second among active drivers and his eight runner-ups stand as the most in history.

Gordon is coming off a 14th-place showing at Pocono. His third-place finish at Bristol was his best of the season. He currently occupies the 13th spot on the Chase Grid, 57 points above the cutoff line.
