RICHMOND, Va. — Assuming the lead on a late restart in Friday night’s Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway, Kevin Harvick ended a 30-race NASCAR Nationwide Series drought dating to the fall race at Richmond in 2010.

Harvick beat Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to the finish line by 1.944 seconds to win for the fifth time at the .75-mile short track and for the 38th time in the series, tying Carl Edwards for third on the all-time victory list.

Kurt Busch ran third, followed by Denny Hamlin and Michael Annett.

“It’s been a great year in this Nationwide car,” said Harvick, who led a race-high 141 laps. “I know we haven’t won the races that we needed to, but, man, we’ve led a ton of laps and been in contention to win just about every race I’ve been in this car this year.

HAMPTON, Ga. — There’s an arrest warrant out for Ricky Stenhouse Jr. — or perhaps there should be — after the defending NASCAR Nationwide Series champion stole Saturday night’s NRA American Warrior 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stenhouse grabbed the lead from Kevin Harvick on the final lap, after a restart with three laps remaining. Contact between the cars of Danica Patrick and James Buescher caused the eighth and final caution and set up the three-lap run to the finish.

Brad Keselowski, on fresh tires, passed Harvick for the second spot. Harvick ran third, followed by Elliott Sadler and Justin Allgaier.

Kernersville, N.C. (July 8th, 2012) – Baby Otis finally has a real name and a face.

Kevin and DeLana Harvick welcomed son Keelan Paul Harvick (pronounced Keylan) Sunday, July 8th, 2012.

Keelan weighed in at 6.8 lbs. and 19.5 INCHES. Throughout the pregnancy, the Harvicks had jokingly referred to their son as “Baby Otis” on Twitter and in public.

“Waiting on Keelan was the longest nine months of my entire life,” Kevin Harvick said. “But time literally stood still when I held our baby for the first time. I’ve accomplished a lot in my life that I’m proud of, but those moments don’t hold a candle to becoming a father and seeing that little face looking up at you. DeLana and I are just amazed by how special and rewarding this is.”

Mother and baby are doing well.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 7, 2012) – NASCAR Nationwide Series regular Austin Dillon has returned to Daytona Beach, Fla., where he will remain on standby to drive the No. 29 Budweiser Folds of Honor Chevrolet in tonight’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coke Zero 400 powered by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway should Richard Childress Racing teammate Kevin Harvick need to return home for the birth of the couple’s first child. Harvick’s wife DeLana has returned to North Carolina where she is resting comfortably.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Austin Dillon, who was scheduled to be on standby as a potential relief driver for Kevin Harvick in Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400, won’t be able to sub in for his Richard Childress Racing teammate.

Dillon, the top rookie in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, was not cleared for Sprint Cup competition on the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway by NASCAR officials.

Dillon has made two previous Sprint Cup starts, last season at 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway and earlier this year at 2-mile Michigan International Speedway, but the 22-year-old has not driven a Sprint Cup car on a restrictor-plate track and did not practice Harvick’s No. 29 Chevrolet before Saturday’s race.

Harvick and his wife, DeLana Harvick, are expecting their first child, and there’s a possibility the baby may be born Saturday, which also is DeLana Harvick’s birthday.

“Happy birthday @DeLanaHarvick could be an interesting one,” Harvick posted on his Twitter account just before noon ET on Saturday.

RCR officials said Kenny Wallace was in the mix as a possible Saturday replacement for Harvick.

Dillon flew home to North Carolina after finishing fourth in Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Daytona, intending to race Late Models before heading for a Nationwide event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, according to sources close to the situation.

But Dillon traveled back to Daytona on Saturday in case his services were needed. Harvick said in his Thursday media availability at Daytona that he didn’t have a back-up arranged, but apparently that changed as the weekend progressed.
