Ron Hornaday Jr. Scores 50th NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Victory
Four-Time Series Champion Extends All-Time Series Wins Lead

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 1, 2011) — Ron Hornaday Jr., the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series only four-time champion, posted his record-extending 50th victory in the Kentucky 225 at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday night.

Hornaday, from Palmdale, Calif., is the only active, full-time competitor whose career dates to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ inaugural event at Phoenix International Raceway on Feb. 5, 1995. He won the Keystone Light Pole for that race and collected his first victory two months later at Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park.

The 53-year-old Hornaday has won races on 30 different tracks. He is the series’ all-time short track winner with 22 victories and also won three times on road courses. Eleven of his 50 victories came from a pole position start.

Beginning in 1995, when Hornaday drove for Dale Earnhardt Inc., he has won at least once in each of 12 seasons in which he was a full-time competitor and 13 years overall. His most prolific season was 1997 when he won seven times. He has won six or more times in five different seasons. Saturday’s victory was his third of the 2011 season.

FYI WIRZ: NASCAR’s truck teams shed jobs as Kevin Harvick shutters KHI

Kevin Harvick nixed summer rumors when he announced the merger of KHI and RCR in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, a new two-car team, and shuttered his Camping World Truck Series team for 2012. Many suspected lurid causes, but Harvick was specific about his thoughts and reasons.

“The reactions have just been crazy as far as the way the rumors have spun out of control. DeLana and I have just kind of sat back and laughed at a lot of them. But I feel like as a couple, and as a group at KHI, we’ve made a lot of good business decisions over the course of the years. And it’s going to allow us time to explore other business opportunities as well.”

KHI is not the only team to notify crew members that they will be cutting back. Germain Racing minority owners Mike Hillman, Sr., and Mike Hillman, Jr., informed their NASCAR Camping World Truck Series employees of shutdowns. Team members, like many at KHI, are free to pursue options for the 2012 season.

RCR & KHI Create Merger for NASCAR Nationwide Program

WELCOME, N.C. (Sept. 7, 2011) — Richard Childress Racing and Kevin Harvick Incorporated have reached agreement on a collaborative effort that will have KHI’s current NASCAR Nationwide Series program merge with RCR beginning in 2012.
The decision is the coming together of the best of the two organizations. KHI will continue to be involved on the business and competition sides with RCR and KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick will still be very active in the Nationwide Series program. The No. 2 and No. 33 teams will continue with drivers Elliott Sadler (No. 2 Chevrolet) and a combination of RCR’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers in the No. 33 Chevrolet. The merger will benefit KHI’s current sponsors with increased resources and business-to-business opportunities.

HAMPTON, Ga.—A Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevrolet won Friday night’s Camping World Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but it wasn’t the KHI truck that dominated the proceedings.

Ron Hornaday Jr. stole a win with fuel-mileage strategy in the Good Sam Club 200, beating teammate-for-a day Clint Bowyer to the finish line by 1.596 seconds to win his second race of the season and the 49th of his career.

The four-time series champion stopped for fuel on Lap 75 of 130 and immediately began saving gas. Bowyer, who was the class of the field, had to stop for fuel on Lap 112. Kyle Busch ran third, followed by Blake Feese and Ryan Newman. Austin Dillon, Matt Crafton, polesitter Ricky Carmichael, Todd Bodine and James Buescher rounded out the top 10.
