Busch Comes “Home” With Some Security

Obviously, Las Vegas Motor Speedway is Las Vegas-native Kyle Busch’s home. But really, shouldn’t Bristol be substituted in this category?

Busch has won the last five NASCAR national series races at Bristol, including his three-series sweep last August. In all, he has 11 wins at Bristol – including five in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, which is tied with Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch for most among active drivers.

He’s the only driver with a 100+ average Driver Rating (108.1) and one of two drivers with an average finish over the last 13 races less than 10 (8.7).

Why not another victory? He adds momentum to his past history, winning last Sunday at Michigan International Speedway and clinching the first Chase berth of the season. With his Michigan win, Busch locked up at least a Wild Card spot.

He also became eligible for the $3 million Sprint Summer Showdown sweepstakes. Another win at Bristol would help limit the competition at Atlanta.

FYI WIRZ: NASCAR’s Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson talk Michigan start and finish

Michigan International Speedway has sweeping 73-foot wide turns providing three and four grooves for drivers of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) to catch and pass one another.

The 2-mile tri-oval track with 18 degree banking did not disappoint during Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 as numerous lead changes, bold pit road strategies and fast competition pleased the abundant crowd.

Although cautions happened, the day of racing was surprisingly free of crashes. Some cars scrapped the wall. Some ran low on fuel, but it was a speedy event where equipment failed—not drivers or teams.

Race 23 of 36 in the Sprint Cup Series in Brooklyn, Mich., was important for all wanting a win or good result, but for Chase contenders on the bubble the finish became tense.

Kyle Busch pleaded guilty to driving a loaner Lexus LFA SuperCar, 128mph in a 45 zone back on May 24th in Moorsville North Carolina. He was charged with speeding and reckless driving and appeared in court Tuesday August 23rd 2011. He was given a 30 day suspended jail sentence, 30 hours of community service, 1 year of unsupervised probation, lost his drivers license for 45 days, and a $1000 fine. To answer your question, no he doesn’t need a valid drivers license to race in NASCAR.

Kyle Busch – “Obviously I had a lack of judgment and just made a mistake,” Busch said two days after being cited. “And I’m sorry for making that mistake. … Fortunately there was no one hurt, but that doesn’t make any kind of an excuse for what happened and for my lack in judgment for what I did.”
