Dale Earnhardt Jr. Medically Cleared To Return To NASCAR Competition

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2012) – Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been medically cleared to return to NASCAR competition and will be back in the seat of the No. 88 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Per NASCAR policy, NASCAR’s medical liaison office received official notification of his clearance to resume racing late this morning. Earnhardt announced Oct. 11 that he would miss two races (Charlotte and Kansas) while he was recovering from a concussion.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — It was a sheepish Rick Hendrick who visited the Kansas Speedway media center in the middle of Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400, backtracking on an earlier statement that Dale Earnhardt Jr. had been cleared to race next weekend at Martinsville.

In fact, Earnhardt still has two hurdles to clear — a closed test at Gresham Motorsports Park in Georgia on Monday and a visit with neurologist Dr. Jerry Petty on Tuesday — before he can return. Earnhardt was held out of the No. 88 at Charlotte and Kansas while recovering from two recent concussions.

Just wanted to update you guys, the most loyal group of Dale Jr fans and friends!

Dale has been following the doctor’s orders to rest up. The doctor did relax his orders a little last week and allowed him to watch some television and play a little video games. He’s not suppose to “stress” his brain, LOL. He spent the weekend at home doing just that. He did watch the race and was bummed with the engine blowing on the 88.

On Sunday, our cousin was married on Dale’s property (at the old town) and he did come down to the ceremony but quickly retreated back to his house after the ceremony was over. We spent the day Tuesday in Pittsburgh at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center with a great team of doctors led by Mickey Collins. This facility is part of the Steelers training facility for all you Steelers fans. It was pretty cool. Dale spent most of the day doing different therapies and exercises.
