FORT WORTH, Texas — Ryan Blaney, has always had a penchant for speed at Texas Motor Speedway in his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series career, and that trend continued Friday afternoon in the First Cup Series practice session of the week for Sunday’s AAA Texas 500.

It’s here, everyone’s favorite week — Darlington Throwback — is here. We get to see an amazing race, but we also get to see colors, and designs that take us back to when we were younger. This year, a bunch of teams have stepped up their games and have brought amazing throwback paint schemes.

I have gone ahead and taken each scheme, and in the honor of throwback weekend, I made them into a replica trading card from the first-ever NASCAR collector set (1988 Maxx) which was released 30 years ago. Man, what a race Bristol Motor Speedway put on. The race had it all. Big crashes, tight battles all night long, and in the end a driver — Kurt Busch — got their first win of the season.

Not only that, but three more drivers — Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski and Kyle Larson — did enough to secure berths in the Playoff Grid. With two races remaining 12 of the 16 slots have been filled, which leaves four positions for 18 drivers to battle for.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. comes into Saturday night’s Bass Pro Shops night race at Bristol Motor Speedway in an unenviable position – the first man outside the cutline for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

The 30-year-old driver currently sits 62 points behind Hendrick Motorports driver Alex Bowman. Stenhouse could erase that point deficit over the next three races, but it is highly unlikely that it will happen. But if Stenhouse were to win one of the three remaining regular season races the Olive Branch, Mississippi native would leapfrog his way automatically into the post season. FORT WORTH, Texas — I don’t really know how William Byron, a rookie in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, found the resolve and wherewithal to go from the back of the pack to finish Sunday’s crash-filled O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in 10th-place, but he indeed found it.
