Kevin Harvick had been pretty fast through the early part of the weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, but early  in the second practice session the motor in Harvick’s No. 29 Chevrolet expired down the front stretch. What this means is that no matter where Harvick ranks in today’s qualifying session for Saturday’s NRA 500, he will have to start from the rear of the field.

This marks the second engine that has gone up in smoke for the Earnhardt Childress Engine shop, as Paul Menard lost a motor in testing Thursday.

Harvick has had a sluggish start to 2013, as he has just one top-10 through six races, and he sits 14th in the point standings. If he expects to move forward, he’ll have to do it from the back of the field on Saturday.

NASCAR takes to racing under the lights this Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth, Texas. The 1.5-mile oval track with 24-degree banking sits on a Texas-sized property of about 1,500 acres and has abundant seating for 122,377.
Fans without tickets can enjoy all 334 laps, about 500 miles, of NASCAR Sprint Cup racing on Fox at 7:30 p.m.

Since its first race on April 6, 1997, the speedway has attracted large crowds to its fast track. Fans planning to be there in person or watching on TV can prepare for the excitement by reading select comments taken from drivers who know what to expect from the race.

The top five NSCS drivers—Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski , Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kyle Busch and Kasey Kahne—shared their thoughts before the green flag waves in Texas.

stewart_truckDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 9, 2013) – NASCAR announced today the qualifying and race procedures for the inaugural “Mudsummer Classic” – the highly anticipated NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday, July 24. Unlike asphalt tracks, dirt tracks have historically used a format much different than typical races and that will be the case for this event, the first NASCAR national series race held on dirt in more than 40 years.

The race will feature a traditional two-lap qualifying session, five qualifying races, one last-chance race and a champion’s provisional to determine the 30-truck starting field. The top-20 in owners’ points entering the race event will have a guaranteed starting position.
