Finally, Go-Time Is Here For Pastrana
Like the old ketchup commercial, there’s been plenty of anticipation surrounding Travis Pastrana’s NASCAR Nationwide Series debut. Originally scheduled to make his first start last July at O’Reilly Raceway Park, Pastrana’s bid was thwarted due to injuries suffered in an X-Games stunt the night before.

NOTE: TRAVIS PASTRANA QUALIFIED 25TH FOR RICHMOND

Now after injury rehab, plenty of testing and a couple of runs in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East – including Thursday night’s Blue Ox 100 – the action sports icon is finally set for his big-stage NASCAR moment Friday night at Richmond. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Pastrana as well. He’s a native of Annapolis, Md. Almost a year to the day (April 28, 2011) after making his K&N East debut at Richmond, Pastrana is set to embark on a NNS schedule that encompass at least seven races in 2012.

FYI WIRZ: NASCAR’s top guns aim fast at the quick Richmond track

by Dwight Drum at Racetake.com

Richmond International Raceway is the third shortest track on the NASCAR circuit, but speeds routinely exceed 100 mph and the bumping and banging action is well received by packed crowds usually greater than 90,000.

The .75-mile oval track with 14 degree banking is considered a short track, but the way 43 Sprint Cup cars roar around in the night air gives off an aura of a much faster track.

On April 28th fans without tickets for the Capital City 400 presented by Virginia is for Lovers, can view the action at 7 p.m. ET on FOX.

Steve Wallace, a perennial Nationwide Series top-ten points finisher as of late, will make his 2012 NNS debut at the helm of RWR’s No. 4 Loanmax Ford Mustang in the April 27th Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway. Although his Rusty Wallace Racing team took a hiatus from Nationwide Series competition following 2011, Wallace looks to return to the Nationwide Series in a limited 2012 schedule, beginning with the Richmond event.

A HELPING HAND: Although Wallace’s Ford Mustang was prepared out of the Rusty Wallace Racing shops, his Richmond effort is in collaboration with JTG Daugherty Racing. JTGD’s No. 47 Sprint Cup crew will pit the No. 4 car, with No. 47 crew chief, Todd Berrier, calling the shots for Wallace on race day. Blake Bainbridge, the original RWR crew chief for Jamie McMurray, will head the team during practice, along with Wallace’s 2011 car chief, Ricky Cade.
