ROSSBURG, Ohio — Austin Dillon returned to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series the same night NASCAR returned to dirt.

Racing in the series for the first time since winning the 2011 championship, Dillon pulled away during a green-white-checkered-flag finish to win Wednesday night’s CarCash Mudsummer Classic at Eldora Speedway, the first dirt-track race in any of NASCAR’s top three series since Richard Petty triumphed at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, N.C., on Sept. 30, 1970.

But the real winners were those who took the leap of faith to stage a mid-week race on dirt, those who came to rural Ohio to see it and those who consumed it through broadcast media.

Daytona 500 Qualifying 2013 Kevin HarvickBUDWEISER TO JOIN KEVIN HARVICK AT STEWART-HAAS RACING BEGINNING NEXT SEASON
King of Beers to be Primary Sponsor of No. 4 Chevrolet SS in 2014

ST. LOUIS (July 12, 2013) – For more than 30 years Budweiser has sponsored some of NASCAR’s top race car drivers. The King of Beers will continue its rich tradition in the sport by joining Kevin Harvick as he moves to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014 to drive the No. 4 Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

“Over the last three years, Kevin has been an amazing ambassador for Budweiser, both on and off the track,” said Blaise D’Sylva, vice president of media, sports and entertainment marketing, Anheuser-Busch. “We value that level of commitment, and we’re proud to join him at Stewart-Haas Racing next season.”

Under the terms of the deal, Budweiser will serve as primary sponsor of the No. 4 Chevrolet for 20 races as well as the Budweiser Duel during Budweiser Speedweeks at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Budweiser will serve as a major associate sponsor for the remaining races on the Sprint Cup Series schedule.

Kasey Kahne at DaytonaKasey Kahne and Tony Stewart, both one-time winners in 2013, hold the Wild Card hands heading into this weekend’s Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway. Kahne is 11th in points, eight behind Martin Truex Jr. Stewart is 15th, 20 points out of the top 10. Kahne finished second in last year’s Kentucky race while Stewart was 32nd. Among those vying for Wild Card consideration is Paul Menard, third in Wild Card standings but ranked in the top 10 after eight events this year; and Jeff Gordon, who finished second at Sonoma and trails Menard by one position and four points in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings.

Tony Stewart at DaytonaIt’s not exactly “worst to first,” but it sure is close.
Over the first 11 races, when Tony Stewart dipped to as low as 24th in the points standings, the three-time series champion earned an average of 23 points per race. Over the last four races, all of which have been top-10 finishes, he has averaged 41 points per race.

Stewart’s 180-degree turn has him in the top 10 in points for the first time this season, a position which seemed highly unlikely only three weeks.
And now, sitting 10th in points, Stewart looks destined for a berth in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup and a chance at a fourth series championship that would tie him for fourth on the all-time list with Jeff Gordon.
