Jimmie Johnson’s win at Martinsville broke an 11-race winless drought, and nudges the all-time winningest manufacturer nearer to a major milestone: 700 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories.

They now sit at the very edge of the milestone, at 699 wins.

The accolades don’t end there. Chevrolet has already clinched the Manufacturers’ Championship in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Nationwide Series, and can clinch the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ title this weekend at Texas. It would be the first manufacturer championship sweep since Chevrolet did it in 2005.

Elliott Sadler shakes off sickness for Chicagoland Nationwide win

JOLIET, Ill. — Elliott Sadler went from sick to stupendous, rallying late to capture Sunday’s STP 300 Nationwide Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.

Sadler, who also won a $100,000 bonus for the victory, had battled a flu bug for the previous three days, at one point spending 36 hours in bed. But when he arrived at the track Saturday, he felt the worst was behind him and was ready to race.

As Dale Earnhardt Jr. streaked toward his first NASCAR Sprint Cup victory in four years, the foremost star of another sport was walking a path of abject failure.

When Earnhardt took the checkered flag in Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Tiger Woods was putting the finishing touches on a prolonged collapse in the U.S. Open Golf Championship at San Francisco’s Olympic Club.
