Kyle Busch Wins Record-Breaking 50th NASCAR Nationwide Series Race
2009 Series Champion Now In Sole Possession of All-Time Series Wins Lead

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 26, 2011) – After winning the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway Friday night, Kyle Busch became the all-time NASCAR Nationwide Series wins leader, breaking a tie with Mark Martin.

The victory was Busch’s fourth at Bristol and 50th overall since his series debut in 2003.

On May 14, 2004 at Richmond International Raceway, Busch drove the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to his first NASCAR Nationwide Series victory. It was the 18th career series start for Busch, then 19, who led 236 of the 250 laps in that event.

Busch Comes “Home” With Some Security

Obviously, Las Vegas Motor Speedway is Las Vegas-native Kyle Busch’s home. But really, shouldn’t Bristol be substituted in this category?

Busch has won the last five NASCAR national series races at Bristol, including his three-series sweep last August. In all, he has 11 wins at Bristol – including five in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, which is tied with Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch for most among active drivers.

He’s the only driver with a 100+ average Driver Rating (108.1) and one of two drivers with an average finish over the last 13 races less than 10 (8.7).

Why not another victory? He adds momentum to his past history, winning last Sunday at Michigan International Speedway and clinching the first Chase berth of the season. With his Michigan win, Busch locked up at least a Wild Card spot.

He also became eligible for the $3 million Sprint Summer Showdown sweepstakes. Another win at Bristol would help limit the competition at Atlanta.

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.—Marcos Ambrose passed Brad Keselowski on the first lap of a green-white-checkered-flag finish at Watkins Glen and won Monday’s rain-delayed Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen under caution when a violent multicar wreck exploded behind him on the final circuit.
Ambrose, who charged through the bus stop (inner loop) and powered past Keselowski to the inside, became the fifth first-time winner in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series this year.

The famous runner Steve Prefontaine was once quoted as saying, “Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts.”

“Pre,” as he was called, would most certainly have enjoyed Brad Keselowski’s gutsy performance in Good Sam RV Insurance 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on August 7. Keselowski, sporting a broken left ankle swollen to roughly the size of a small tree, toughed it out for 500 miles to take the checkered flag at Pocono Raceway.

“I came here to win. When you let the pain get into your head that far that you don’t believe you can win anymore, you’ll never win. And I woke up this morning feeling like we could win the race … If you don’t feel that way, you’re never going to win at anything you do,” he said in an interview after the race.

That’s self-motivation, and it is a powerful thing, strong enough to get an injured athlete out of bed and ready to play when the rest of us would probably just reach for a box of tissues and call in sick for the day.
