NASCAR LogoNASCAR Statement on 4th Circuit Court’s Ruling

(July 24, 2009) “We are pleased with the 4th Circuit Court’s ruling to reinstate NASCAR’s suspension of Jeremy Mayfield. This is an important decision for NASCAR to make fair and equitable regulations for the safety of competitors and spectators at the track. We will continue to respectfully make our case for as long as the litigation continues.”

Beyond the News with Katy Lindamood:

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Dale Jr. fans, you are in a class by yourself when it comes to supporting your driver. You let everyone know which driver you will be cheering for once the green flag drops. You don’t care how long it’s been since he won his last race or how many times the pit crew had a mishap on pit road. You don’t even care if he is on the lead lap. As long as your driver is out there on the track you are on your feet cheering for him.

I might not be a Jr. fan but I do respect his fans for never giving up on him. Sure, you might get annoyed when he finishes near the middle or rear of the field, but you still claim he is the greatest driver on the track and will defend his merit to any haters you encounter. Dale Jr. has a bad day and his fans say things like “well at least he’s out there on the track gaining a few points” or “he’s having a better race than that one last week.” Or my favorite of all, “at least he didn’t finish dead last”

What about the rest of us?

Tony Stewart Takes Number Of His Idol A.J. Foyt To Brickyard This Week

NASCAR Car No. 14(NOTE: This is the continuation of an occasional series of 2009 “NASCAR Family Tree” releases highlighting some of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ most renowned car numbers and their performance heritage. This installment takes a look at the No. 14.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 22, 2009) – The No. 14 is a contender again at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and everywhere else for that matter.

Tony Stewart is the driver and he’s also the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader this week, coming into Sunday’s Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. Stewart is amid a stunning debut as a driver-owner, in the No. 14 Old Spice/Office Depot Chevrolet. Stewart secured the No. 14 in honor of his childhood idol, Indy-car legend and former Daytona 500 champion A.J. Foyt.

Which would make a Stewart victory this weekend especially memorable. Foyt is synonymous with the Brickyard, having won the Indianapolis 500 a record four times. Two of Foyt’s 500 wins came in an open-wheel machine adorned with the No. 14.
