DewaltDeWALT Will Not Return to No.17 Roush Fenway Cup Team in 2010

CONCORD, N.C. (July 23, 2009) – Roush Fenway Racing was informed today that DEWALT Power Tools will not renew its sponsorship of Matt Kenseth and the No. 17 team for the 2010 NASCAR season.

“We would like to thank DEWALT for serving as a great partner for the past 10 years,” said Roush Fenway President Geoff Smith. “During that time we have seen great success for both their company and marketing program, as well as with Matt on the race track. They will always be remembered and honored as the sponsor of Jack Roush’s first Sprint Cup Championship team.

The MoonUnlike Moon, NASCAR Cares About Fans
Twitter Updates Shed NASCAR Light

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following release is a lighter side look at statistics. NASCAR doesn’t really think it’s better than the moon.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 22, 2009) – While the moon caused the longest solar eclipse of this century, NASCAR continues giving fans what they want: the best racing on the planet.

This week, a solar eclipse lasting over six and a half minutes occurred on the other side of the planet. You’ll have to wait another 123 years for another eclipse that long; a similar one is scheduled for June 13, 2132. By then, four-time champion Jeff Gordon will have 642 wins – if he keeps up the pace he’s on now.

Last night’s eclipse was a cruelly long one. Six and a half minutes? The brutal wait was a ridiculous 388.996 seconds longer than the average margin of victory for a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race (which is a mere 1.004 seconds).

Goodyear TiresTo say that there was a tire debacle during the 2008 Allstate 400 at the Brickyard would be a gross understatement. It was so bad that NASCAR felt the need to issue a public apology to fans for it.

With the unknown factor of the car of tomorrow running at the Brickyard for the first time last year, goodyear obviously dropped the ball during 2008 Indy testing. During the actual race, tire wear was so bad that NASCAR was throwing competition cautions right and left, usually only 10 to 12 laps apart.

The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company has taken extra care this year to prevent a repeat of the 2008 Indy race.

“The last two tests, Goodyear really honed in on different constructions, different tire compounds and things that would add life to the tire but also add a lot of grip,” NASCAR Vice-President of Competition Robin Pemberton said. “It’s tough to get both and I think they’ve done a great job in doing just that. It’s amazing to see what’s been accomplished in the last 10 months or so.
