Just when you think there couldn’t be anymore breaking news in the world of NASCAR, the hits keep on coming.

According to a report from Dave Moody’s blog, Steve Letarte will be stepping down from the pit box at Hendrick Motorsports to take a job as a NASCAR analyst on NBC Sports in 2015.

If true, Letarte is expected to be in the booth alongside Rick Allen and Jeff Burton .

Letarte has been the man who has helped get Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s career back on track. In 2009 and 2010, the 10-time most popular driver, finished outside the top20 in the point standings. In the three years that Letarte has guided the No. 88 team, Earnhardt has made the Chase every year.

This past season Earnhardt finished fifth in the point standings (his highest rank since 2006), and he racked up a career high 22 top10 finishes.

This report is still unconfirmed, but Letarte didn’t squash the rumor when contacted by Moody either. If the report is true, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be looking for a new crew chief for 2015 and beyond.
