It’s no secret by now that Danica Patrick’s NASCAR tenure is off to a rocky start, but there is always hope. Even Juan Montoya, famous for smashing into jet dryers, won a couple of races at the Sprint Cup level, and he even made the Chase once.
However aside from an eighth-place effort in last year’s Daytona 500, there has been little to nothing to be excited for in the Danica camp.
Now the news comes that ‘The King’ Richard Petty doesn’t believe Danica Patrick has what it takes to win a race in NASCAR.
Petty made an appearance at The Canadian Motorsports Expo, and when he asked if Danica would win a race in her career, Petty said, “If everybody else stayed home.”
Through 46 career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts, Danica’s average finish is a pedestrian 26.6, and all of this has come while driving top-tier equipment from Stewart-Haas Racing.
If anybody knows what it takes to win a race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, it would be the man who has visited victory lane 200 times. Only time will tell if Danica can win for sure, but until she does Petty will not be holding his breath.
