Rescheduled and Rain-Shortened Daytona Race Scores Decent Overnight Ratings

What a soggy mess Daytona International Speedway was this weekend. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400 was rained out on Saturday, was contested on Sunday, before ultimately ending 33 laps short of it’s scheduled distance thanks to lightning and rain.

To call Justin Haley’s win in Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona an upset would be a massive understatement. Okay, it would be more than a massive understatement. There aren’t even words that have been constructed yet to describe how big of an underdog story the No. 77 car was on Sunday.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – As the dark clouds and lightning descended upon Daytona International Speedway Sunday afternoon, Justin Haley climbed out of his No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet feeling like it was perhaps divine intervention. He was first on the scoreboard at the time Sunday’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 was red-flagged for lightning 33 laps short of the intended 160-lap distance.
